Popcorn Balls 2 Ways

Popcorn is by far a favorite snack at my house.  So when planning a movie night with friends, I thought I would take it a step further and make popcorn balls.  I couldn't decide who's recipe to make.  My moms.  Or my Grandmas.  So I made both!

For each of these recipes, pop 6 qts of popcorn.

Jello Popcorn Balls
(These are the ones I always remember my mom making when I was little.)

You can use any flavor jello you choose.  I chose orange because it's a nice fall color and it's my favorite flavor of jello!

1 small box jello
1 cup sugar
1 cup light corn syrup

Stir together and bring to a boil.  Boil 1 minute.  Pour over 6 qt. popcorn.  Mix well and form into balls.

Someone sure liked them!  I think I like these ones best while they are still warm.

Grandma's Popcorn Balls

30-40 large marshmallows (I used 36 -almost a whole bag, but a girls gotta have a little sugar....)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter

Melt together till smooth.  Pour over popcorn.   Form into balls.

This can be quite sticky so I find it easiest to spray my hands with Pam before making the balls.

Mmmm.....

Joy thanks for the how-tos on making two versions of popcorn balls. I have always wondered how to make the flavored ones. I've made the regular kind in the past. They are usually a bit too stiff for me. I prefer making caramel corn. However, I am going to entertain the idea of trying to make flavored ones, though. =D

Hey Joy! Are the jello ones anything like the "candied" type popcorn? We used to have this fabulous popcorn shop here, with tons and tons of awesome candied popcorn in every color imaginable...I loved it SO much!
