I also started a craft challenge every Wednesday and Feature yourself Friday that I would love for you to join. I try to post something new almost everyday and I enjoy a variety of crafts. It is my way to relax and take a break from a busy day. Here's a little more about me:
Here are some of my favorite projects you will find on my blog: Family Motto, Easy Wall Art, fabric high chair, My bedroom furniture , Sweet Baby Plates, and Pink Desk Makeover
Today I thought I would show you how to make a fun Holiday frame that you can easily leave up all year by simply swapping out the embellishments and the picture.

I started out with a plain wood frame.  You can find these at any craft store pretty cheap.
Pick a Pattern Paper (I went with black polka dots because it matches my house but any color would work.)  Lay your paper face down and your frame face down on top of it.  Trace around your frame and openings.
Cut out your paper
Paint the edges of your frame and let it dry
Apply mod podge to your frame
Place your paper on top and add another coat of mod podge.  Smooth out all of the bubbles.  Let it dry

Cut out 3 circles from one from one color or fabric and 3 smaller circles to put in the center of a different color to make your flowers.  (they don't have to be the same size).
Mod podge your circle flowers to a piece of cardstock and cut them out.
Place 3 magnets on your frame in the area you want your flowers.  I added a pop dot behind one to add height to one of them.

Place a magnet on the back of your flowers and add stick them to your frame.

Sand the edges (optional). Add your picture and your done.  My frame had a small opening so I printed out some text on cardstock and also attached it with magnets.

Halloween is over simply switch your picture and your flowers for a new look.  You can add any type of embellishments you want.  Pumpkins for Halloween, Hearts for Valentines, snowflakes for winter or just change the color of your flower to match your home (like my red one).
Come by Crystal's Craft Spot anytime for more crafts and tutorial. Thanks again for letting me stop by. Its been a lot of fun!

Thanks  for sharing Crystal, I am headed out to find me a fun frame!

Candy Corn Pillow + Tutorial!!!

Have you seen the small fat quarters at Walmart? There has been this orange one just calling to me the last week and I finally came up with a project for it!

A CANDY CORN PILLOW!
(Yes, another Candy Corn project!)

You need:
orange, yellow, and white fabric
orange thread
orange ric rac
poly-fil stuffing

Draw your own Candy Corn pattern.  And cut into 3 pieces.

(My pattern is 11 1/2 inches at the widest spot near the bottom and 16 1/4" tall.  And the finished pillow stands almost 13 " tall)

Cut 2 of each piece.

Start by sewing orange to yellow, with right sides together.  Then sew white to the orange.  I used 1/2" seams.

Press out all seams on both pieces.

Then turn over and top stitch using a zig-zag stitch over the seams.

Next, pin your ric-rac around 1 candy corn piece.  Pin it almost to the edge of your fabric, but leave a little space.

Sew on ric-rac using a small seam allowance.  I just guided the edge of my fabric along the edge of my presser foot.
Then pin the other piece on top of the one with the ric-rac.  Right sides together.
Use  a slightly bigger seam.
Remember to leave about 4-5" opening at the bottom for stuffing.

Stuff it as full as you want to get desired softness.  And sew closed.  Either by machine, like I did or by hand is fine too!

Close up so you can see the zig-zag stitching!

Lil' man loves it too!

(too bad its not a toy!  Check back soon to see how I solve this problem!)

Hoo are you? #16 @ Night Owl Crafting

Here we go with a little more about ME!

1.  List 3 words that remind you of fall.
Pumpkins, football, leaves

2. Do you wear jewelry often?
I usually have earrings, rings and my watch.  When I want to get a little more dressed up, I add a necklace and occasionally a bracelet

3. Do you like your toe nails painted or natural?
In the summer they are usually always painted but I do admit as it cools off, and I am no longer wearing flip flops and sandals, my toenails get a little neglected.
4. Do you ever wear a hat
I haven't ever been much of a hat person.  Occasionally I will steal one from my hubbys closet for one of the kids games.
5. Do you have someone that you talk to everyday on the phone?
Or almost every day.  My mom, sister, and BFF!

Now its your turn so go link up and tell us a little more about YOU!

Make New Friends & a GIVEAWAY!: Amie @ Pinkapotamus!

Today, I want to introduce you to Amie.  She has a cute, crafty, fun blog called Pinkapotamus!  She also has an Esty by the same name!

So that we can all get to know her a little better, I asked her these fun questions!

1.How did your Blog get its name?

My blog got its name from my daughter. When she was 2 or 3 she would wear pink from head to toe and I always called her my "Pinkapotamus" This developed into a song: She's a Pinkapotamus.. cute from top to bottomus.. got a toosh you just can't miss cause she's my Pinkapotamus~ It kinda just stuck!

2.  In one word, how would your best friend describe you?

 BUSY!

3.  Where do you get most of your inspiration for your projects?

Most of my inspiration for crafts comes from what my kids love. Whatever makes them happy is what I love to create.

4.  What do you think are your 3 worst personality traits?  3 best?

3 worst traits.. disorganized, messy and shy
3 best traits.. loyal, happy, helpful

5.  Tell me anything else you would like us to know about YOU!
The best thing that I ever did was to decide to be a stay at home mom. I love being able to watch my kids grow up and be a participant in every aspect of their lives. I love to be involved and it is what makes me Super busy.. but also super happy!

So now that we all know Amie a little better, look what she is giving away to 1 lucky winner!

And now, here's a cute project idea from Amie!

My daughter kids love to play dress up.  They are always trying on different costumes and shoes and pretending to be princesses, knights, superheroes and pirates.  As my daughter has gotten older, sometimes it is hard to find costumes in her size.. so we have started to make accessories to fit her that she can add to clothes or costumes that she has not yet outgrown.  One of our favorite things to make are princess crowns.
This is one that is made from a wreath from the dollar store.  I start with a wreath, felt, ribbon, pearls, jewels a feather boa and a cardboard box sorry I mean a piece of heavy scrapbook paper.  Oh yeah.. don't forget to fire up that trusty hot glue gun!
First I wrap the wreath in ribbon.  I glue one end of the ribbon and then wrap the whole wreath overlapping each repeat so that none of the wreath is showing.
When I get to the end of the ribbon I wrap it around and then loop the end through and pull.  I then cut the ribbon into a V so that it has a fancy finished look.
Once the wreath is covered then I move on to the center.  First I make a pattern for the center of the crown on heavy scrapbook paper.  (I originally tried this with a cereal box but it was too heavy and didn't make the right shape circle.)  I then trace the same shape with an extra 1/2 inch to the top and 1 inch on the bottom.
I then glue the felt with craft glue to the paper.  Once the glue is dry I fold the bottom edge up and glue with hot glue.
Then I  glue the center to the inside of the wreath and embellish it with a feather boa, pearls and jewels!  Here is the finished product.
My little princess loves hers!
Hope yours will love one too!
P.s. If you are feeling lazy or don't have a wreath and ribbon.. it also works with just the center sized to your child's head!  Imagination is the limit here!
Love,
Pinkapotamus

Decorate My Home: Fall

So, after getting my wreath finished and hung, I decided it was time to get out some other fallish decorations.

After a little digging and hunting, I did find a few things.

Pumpkin Trio.  I made these a couple years ago at a Super Saturday Activity.
Very Easy.
Get 3 diffferent heights of wood blocks, paint orange, glue on a piece of a stick for the handle and decorate with fabric scraps and raffia.
They are sitting at the base of my fireplace, for now.

These 'HARVEST' blocks were made by my awesome sister-in-law!  And they dress up my entry way table nicely.

And another one, not made by me.  This one was made by one of my favorite sisters!

There is another box that is still missing since the move.  It may be hiding in the garage and maybe one day I will actually get out there and find it.  But at least for now, I have a few decorations out!
