Quick and Easy Blankie!

As its been warming up, I have wanted to make a lighter blanket for my son.  He has a nice warm quilt grandma made when he was born but its just getting too hot.
So we stopped at Hobby Lobby the other day and bought some soft flannel and gingham.  I LOVE this gingham.  It is so soft and silky-like!

I cut the 2 pieces of fabric the size I wanted and pinned them right sides together.   Sewed around the edges, leaving a small opening, then turned it right side out and pressed the edges.  Then I top-stitched all the way around the edges to finish.

This was so easy!  And my little guy loves it!  In fact, he was playing peek-a-boo under it while I tried to take his picture.

OREO Goodness!

My Grandma makes the yummiest Oreo ice cream dessert!  Oreos are a staple food in my house.  We buy them like we do milk, bread, eggs, ect.....
I made this delicious dessert today for my Hubby to take to his 'guys night' (halo party)  and had to make a small pan for me and the kids to share too.  I don't have Grandmas recipe but here is my copycat version.  And it is so easy too!

Start by crushing 2 rows of cookies.  Add 1/4 cup melted butter to crumbs.  Save about 1/2 cup cookie crumbs for sprinkling on top.  Spread the rest in the bottom of a 9x13 pan.

To add the ice cream, I open a carton and cut 1/2" thick slices and lay on top of the crust.  I usually use cookies and cream but you can use any flavor you like.

Then spread a jar of hot fudge topping over the ice cream.  (caramel is also yummy!)

Stick in freezer for about 20-30 minutes.  Then cover with an 8 oz container of coolwhip and sprinkle remaining cookie crumbs on top.

Keep in freezer till ready to eat.

Blog Swapping With Cook Clean Craft

I am so excited to have Narelle, another crafty momma, swapping with me today!

Firstly, a big thank you for Joy for blog swapping with me here at Mommas Kinda Crafty. Good luck with the house move!

Firstly, a little about me: My name is Narelle and I'm another Stay-At-Home Mum blogger, living in Brisbane, Australia. I have an energetic 16 month old son, and another bub on the way. As a temporarily-retired engineer, I love to make stuff, and Cook Clean Craft is my log of how I spend my days.

I love to COOK family-friendly (and mostly healthy) meals:
But love to bake as well:
I CLEAN because I love order and control, and try to offer tips:
And tales of cleaning woes:
When I get some time to myself, CRAFT is where I get to express my engineering urge to create, with Felt:
Attempting to Sew:
And having a go at Crochet too:
I'm mostly self-taught, and love to pass on what I've learned, both good and bad.

I would love for you to stop by Cook Clean Craft sometime. Thanks again Joy for having me over!

Thanks for the great post and all your fun ideas!

Sewing Amongst the CHAOS

Yes, I am still sewing! Amongst all the chaos at home right now, I have not yet packed away my sewing machine. I have a couple small projects I am finishing up. Most of the rest of my stuff is packed but I separated out a small box that I will continue working on.  This consists mostly old unfinished projects and a dreaded pile of mending.

I am proud to say that I just finished up 3 more of my Polly Pocket Play purses!  These were made for 3 very special little girls who are moving this week.  I hope they enjoy them and hope they will help during their travels.

These were the fun parts.  The mending, not so much fun.  But it feels good to have accomplished what I did!  Even though most of it was done while sitting in my garage during my Garage Sale this weekend!

If you missed my Polly Pocket Play Purse with tutorial go HERE!

My Kind of Crafts has made an awesome Chore Chart  out of a clipboard and clothespins.  I Love it!

Creative Jewish Mom has a great  recycled book page mirror!
I just love this and extra points for being 'green'

Hope you are all having a good week!  And if I featured you, be sure to grab a button from the right!

Altered Clipboard for Teacher Gift

(My last Teachers Gift)
An Altered Clipboard.  This one was for a special student teacher who has been in my sons 1st grade class this year.  I made all the teachers their teacher appreciation gifts last week, but saved this for her party on Friday.  I hope she likes it!
I didn't take many pictures, but these are so easy!  Just choose some fun scrapbook paper and cut to fit.  I chose to do both sides on this one.  I have made others and only done the front for a Menu board, or shopping list board.

Give it a couple coats of mod podge and decorate to your liking!  I was working with my7 yr old on this one and he wanted her name on it.  We compromised with her initial in the bottom corner on the front and #1 Teacher on the back. I added some fun ribbons to the top and added a flower with a button center with hot glue.

There are so many options with this so just have fun with it!

Tutu Bow Holder!!!

Just in case you missed my guest post the other day @ Miss Crafty Pants, I wanted to post here to share with you!

I recently wandered thru a small flea-market and found the inspiration for my newest project.  I have been needing wanting to make something to hold all my daughters hair bows but just hadn't found the perfect idea.

Until now!
The one I saw was much simpler.   I just took the idea and fancied it up a bit, adding my own touches and tweaking it to my liking.  So fun and easy and I can't wait to show her!

TUTU Bow Holder
(My version)

1. Cut a simple bodice shape. I just used a thick cardboard.  But you could use foam core board or whatever you have.  Mine is 11 1/2" tall and measures 9 3/4" along the bottom.

2. Fabric. Cut 2 pieces.  1 the same size as your bodice and 1 that measures  about 3/4" larger all the way around.

3. Glue the larger piece on the front of your bodice.  Gluing the edges around to the back.  Cut a few slits in the fabric around the curves to help it lay flatter.  And trim off any excess at the corners. (I used a spray adhesive and it was messy!  So I would use craft glue, hot glue, or whatever you have. )

4. Glue the other piece to the back. It should fit perfect and cover the edges from the front piece.

5.  Then I cut my tulle.   I cut 5 pieces about 22" wide x 15" in length.   Then baste stitched along the top to gather.   Gather to fit the width of the bottom of your bodice plus a little on each end to wrap around the back.

 6.  Attach the skirt to your bodice.  I stapled and used a few dabs of hot glue to secure and glued the ends down to the back side.

 7.  Add your ribbon strips.  1.5" works well.  Cut 3 strips, 15" long (or the lenght of your skirt) and attach along the seam where you glued it to the bodice.
8.   Add bows at the top of each ribbon.  I used 1' ribbon to make my bows.

9.  Attach to a hanger.  I made loops out of material scraps and stapled it to the bodice at the top of the shoulder and  hot glued it around the bottom of the hanger.
10.  Attach a few more bows at the tops of the shoulders and in the center.

Now add your princesses hair clips and keep them from being smooshed in drawers and off the floor!

Putting things on HOLD!

For the past month I have been doing a weekly feature on Thursdays.  But for today it is on HOLD!
I will be working on Thrill Me Thursdays #5  and hope to be able to post it next week!  So keep those creative projects coming!

2 reasons for this.

1. I am Guest Posting today over @  Miss Crafty Pants!!! (and have a fun new project to share, so PLEASE go check it out!)

and

2. I am spending most of Thursday with a stager. Which means most of the week I have been packing up, decluttering my home, and cleaning.  My house is almost ready to officially be 'On the Market'   This is not something I look forward to. With 4 kids and having to always have my house clean, I think I will go crazy! Not to mention more than half of my sewing/craft supplies have been packed away!  This is our first experience in selling a house, so any tips and advice on how you survived is greatly appreciated!

Also for any of you fellow bloggers, if you would like to do a Guest Post for me during this hectic time and lighten my load, please send me a note @ mommaskindacrafty(at)gmail(dot)com
I'd be glad to have you!
