Refashion little girls shoes

My daughter has a favorite pair of flats. They look horrible. They were cheap shoes to begin with but she still wears them constantly. So instead of throwing them out I decided to try to refashion them a little.

BEFORE:

I have been looking for ideas to 'fix em up' and haven't had any luck, so this morning I tried it on my own.

Here is my experiment with scrap fabric and hot glue. My brown corduroy didn't exactly match the dirty brown worn shoes and I used a brown with multipcolor polka dots for the frayed rosettes I posted a couple days ago.

More Flowers.....

After Rachels comment on my flowers, I thought I would post some of my favorite flower tutorials I have bookmarked. These will be so fun for SPRING! Best of all, most of these can be made from your scraps! And they are so versatile. Besides wearing in your hair, you can attatch them to shirts, purses, scarves, anything!!!

Molly chicken shows us how to make these adorable ones

And I especially LOVE the frayed rosettes! I just saw a friend make these and attatch a few to her daughters shirt. So cute! I am definitely making these!

Easy Handmade Stuffed Animals

Here is my simple instructions for a handmade stuffed animal.

Pick a simple animal shape and draw your outline about as big as a sheet of paper. Just make sure all parts will be big enough to stuff! Cut it out and pin it to your material. Cut 2. A back and front. I am using brown minky dot for my back and a polka dot for the front piece.

Lay out your top piece, right side up. Pin a couple ribbons on top of head and for tail. You can fold your ribbon for a loop or use a few shorter strips and heat seal the ends.

Then lay the other piece on top, right sides together and pin. Removing the pins you previously used to hold the ribbons down and replacing them through all the layers now.Sew around the animal leaving a 4" opening for turning. Make a few slits in your seam allowance around any corners to make turning easier. Stuff as full as you like and whip stitch the opening closed. Have fun with these and get creative. You could do so many different shapes.

Handmade baby toys!

I am making up a bunch of baby toys for some upcoming baby showers. These have been so fun and so easy!

For Christmas I made my sisters and sister-in-law each a Taggie blankie for my new nephews and niece. I didn't use a tutorial for these. Just saw one my friend Tanya had made and figured I could do it. And they were so easy and fun!
Here is a simple Taggie blankie tutorial....

First, cut 2 pieces of fabric ( mine are 13" x 13")

You could make yours any size you want. (My first ones were a little bigger, about 14x17 finished. But for this one I am just using some leftover fabric)

I am using Minky dot and fleece. I love the minky dot fabric! It is so incredibly soft! I also like to use fleece or corduroy for the other side to give it different textures for baby.

Then you need to cut your ribbons. I am using 2 pcs of 8 different ribbons for a total of 16 ribbons. Cut them each 4 1/2 "

Now, lay out one piece of fabric, right side up. Fold each ribbon in half and pin in place so the edges of the ribbon line up with the fabric. You can measure if you want them even, but I just eyeballed it.

Now sew around the edge using about 1/4 " seam allowance. This will hold the ribbons in place.

Next lay it flat, right side up and pin the other fabric on top, with right sides together.
Now sew around your edges using a 1/2" seam allowance. Leave about a 4-5 inch opening so you can turn it right side out. Make sure you trim your corners before turning.

To finish, topstitch all the way around, making sure to close the opening.  And you're done! Easy Peasy!

I also made these cute Owl Softie Ribbon Teethers using the tutorial at The Rubber Punkin
Aren't they just adorable?

And I can't wait to try this great tutorial for a baby crinkle square at Joy's Hope.

This will be great for all my flannel scraps! However, I don't have many plastic baby wipe packages so I am planning on using the plastic diaper package instead!

Lastly, I wanted to make some stuffed animals. I saw the idea a while back and didn't bookmark it and can't seem to find it now. So I am going to come up with something and I will post it later on.

A few past projects....

I have to admit that my sewing machine has sat in the box for quite a while. Then one day I decided I wanted to sew something. But what? I settled on curtains. I figured after 3 yrs in my home it was about time. So I started with the kitchen. Then the boys room. And the last one I made for Kali's room.

Then my sister made these cute capes for her kids for Easter, and I thought I could make one for the princesses birthday. I used a couple different tutorials to get it the way I wanted.

And then came my urge to organize my house. So I bought some baskets and found this great tutorial for basket liners HERE
Here are my finished baskets on my semi-organized shelves.

What I'm working on.....

Like most crafty people, I don't just have 1 project in process, but many! 1- I have a nursing cover almost done and material for another 2- Material and supplies ready for taggie blankets 3- A hairbow board-this has been on my list of to-dos for a while. When I found the idea months ago I shared it with my friend Tanya and she made it without me. I have seen hers and it is so cute! I just need to find the right frame, and fabric and get her to bring me her leftover chicken wire! (yes, I said chicken wire!) Check it out HERE 4- Oh and I still have yet to finish Colton's car cozy. Mainly because Lindsey, mom to 4 girls, saw it and said we should make one to hold Polly Pocket dolls. So guess what I am working on now? A Polly Purse! And I am so excited to show you....once I get it done! 5- and then there is that never ending pile of pants and socks and mending that I really don't want to do. But! I found a cute tutorial to make Kali a skirt out of an old pair of jeans! http://kari-youcanmakeit.blogspot.com/2009/07/guest-blogger-time-again.html Now to find the right fabric for that....I feel a trip to Hobby Lobby coming on! I am sure there are more but I am afraid to dig too deep.....but I will keep you posted!

FLOWERS!!!

These flowers are everywhere and really popular right now and so easy!

I like to wait for Hobby Lobby to put them 50% off and then they can be made pretty cheap. I made the pink one a while back and I just got the lavender one. It was regular $1.67 so 50% off is less than 85 cents! And I had the other supplies on hand.

You need: Flower(s) (I am using a lavender one and a few other pieces from a white one)
an alligator clip, ribbon, hot glue gun and a sparkly gem or cute button for center.

Start by covering your clip with ribbon. I usually measure about 5". Hot glue it all around the top piece and just about an inch across the bottom.

Take your flower off the stem and pull out the fuzzy center. Pull the layers apart. You are just going to hot glue the pieces together at the center and re-layer it. I am going to add a few white pieces.

After all the layers are glued together, glue your gem in the center.

Then glue it onto the clip.

Now just clip it to your favorite headband or in your favorite girls hair!
