I love making headbands! They just seem to fit better than ones bought at the store. My daughter doesn't like the 'hard' ones rubbing on her ears. I had some corduroy scraps and made a few of these a while back and finished another to match her jumper that is still in progress...
*This is very easy and could be used as a beginning sewing project*
You will need a 4" x 14" scrap of fabric (i love these in corduroy! this size is good for little girls-my daughter is 5 so if you are making it for an older girl or for yourself, you may want to add an inch or 2 to the length)
And about 6 1/2" of 1/2" wide elastic (size here varies too-just measure to fit and I was out of my 1/2" elastic so I used 1/4" on this one and it worked just as well)
Fold in half lengthwise, right sides together and pin.
Sew using a 1/4" seam allowance. Turn rt side out. Press so that the seam runs down the middle. Also tuck in the ends about 1/4 - 1/2" and press.Insert one end of your elastic into an open end about 1/2" and sew closed close to the edge.
Measure the elastic to fit and sew in the other end to finish.
Here's a few others I have made. The ones on the left were the first ones I made. They are narrower and I sewed a piece of ric rac down the middle of the fabric before folding and sewing. So many options here. Try them wider or narrower , add ric rac or ribbon. I would love to see what you come up with!
